Jacob and police detective brother Ray Hanley get caught up in all the action and become targets themselves as they try to find what happened to Charlie Riggs.
As another reviewer said, the story does set up for a sequel, which I look forward to reading as well, but that is not a negative. The story stands alone very well and does not leave the reader with a cliff-hanger ending.

A very good book from the first page to the last. The people and places were greatly portrayed. It was a" keep you on the edge of your seat" kind of read, with lots of suspense.
I wanted a book that was different from my usual reads and I'm glad I picked this one. I never give away the story with detailed reviews so buy the book and enjoy!
This book has it all, sci-fi, suspense, heart break, loss and renewal. This is an exciting read with characters so well defined that they jump off the pages.
This book caught me from the first few pages and I lost sleep, literally stayed up all night to finish it! Incredible story, plot, characters, ending, I loved it ALL!!!! Trust me, you won't be disappointed!!
suspense, sci fi, police procedural, romance are some of the genre's mixed in this book. and the flavors complement one another. The sci fi and romance play supporting roles to the plot which is a rare balance in my experience.
The writing was adequate. Some good character development. Lots of twists and surprises. Acceptable ending, but clearly enough questions and opportunities to fuel another book. Some typos and other errors, but not so many that they detract from or slow down the story. All in all, I enjoyed the story and would recommend it to others.
The plot was interesting and moved along well. I thought the "great elder" was a little campy. I also thought the main character was a little whiny. The subplot of opening the barrier needed more explanation.
