They lived through pain as children and as adults, as a result of that childhood, they lived through pain as adults. The Paris siblings were all each other had for support and love. They did more than survive, especially Sarah, who really had a hard life. Her sister Sloan was right when she said something happened to Sarah to make her into the person she turned into. Sarah had been haunted by nightmares of her assault. She self medicated the only way she knew how. Her best friend Sandy, helped her to get clean because she saw what was underneath the hurt and her potential. It was not until she met Roman Mancini did she have the desire to extricate her mind of her demons with counseling.Little did she know that Roman was battling some of the same demons. He did not want to run Sarah away with his ultra alpha personality. He left his family's way of life to stay on the straight and narrow after he got tired of being his family's muscle. What was so crucial to Sarah and Roman's relationship was their complete honesty about themselves. Neither one of them backed away from the other after hearing the truth. Roman would do anything for Sarah, and his hand was forced to take a step back into the world he left behind in order to protect Sarah and have a future with her.
Thalia wrote a very heartbreaking story about a woman's survival of rape and her journey through life back to normalcy to find the love of her life. Reading that scene was very hard for me to read. The description of the incident was just too real for me. My heart broke for Sarah. It was also a story about a man cleaning up his life and becoming successful in a legitimate business, but he is ready after all he's done to have his own HEA.
I would have thought that the author would have saved Ace and Lola's story for their own book. Perhaps there could be one about her parents. I would love to read a story of how they got together.

Where do I begin. First of all kudos to this author for delivering an eagerly awaited second installment that did not disappoint. I had so many preconceived notions of Sarah based on the first book that by the time she reunited with Sloane I was mad at myself for judging her. It's always true that you never know what a person story is yet we are quick to judge them based on a single episode - never trying to understand how they got there or why they did what they did. Sarah had some stuff times but I was glad that she owned her mess and never stopped trying to get her life back. Roman was a serious alpha male who I had my doubts about - not into stubborn men but he did grow on me eventually. My only disappointment was that I had hoped that there would be a story for Leo (a bit surprised by his hook-up). Overall an excellent read that I highly recommend.
Once again, Author Thalia Lake has outdone herself. I didnt think part 2 could be topped but I'm hear to tell you that if you loved part one you will not be disappointed with part 2. As I read this book I felt the pain, sorrow, hurt, etc that Sarah and all her siblings suffered. As I read this story my heart ache for Sarah and her siblings. This book gives you hope that no matter what you go through in life, you can survive and that you are never along. I recommend you read this book. Job well done Thalia Lake. I cannot wait for the next book!!!!!!!!!!
Book was OK. I liked the first one better. Sarah had a lot working against her and I am glad in the end she got help and things came together. Roman was OK as male lead but I want to know if he was an alcoholic - why did he have scotch with his lunch - 2 of them! The side story with his cousin Ace and Sarah and her family, I did not really connect with this book like others in the past from Ms. Lake. The last thing that really upset me is that the issue with high school gym teacher never revisited to conclude that part of story.
I read the first book and loved Sloane and so hated her sister Sarah. I was on the fence about getting this book because of my dislike of her in the last. This is a true testament of not judging a book by its cover or in this case it characters. I fell in love with Sarah. I rooted for her and cried for her and laughed with her. I was like a proud mother watching her daughter become an adult. I admired the way Ms. Lake took Sarah from desperation and turned her into a lovable woman and I especially loved the bond the siblings had despite their upbringing. This book was so sweet and so full of surprises and healing, I just could not put it down. Well done Ms. Lake.
Totally Awesome. Best book in a long time. The fact that the intimacy happened at the end of the book, just goes to show that the story could carry on it's own. Loved it and is definitely a must read again and again. So many issues, so much pain, but herein, we understand, you are not ALONE in your journey. ABUSE and VIOLENCE happens to us all and we carry the pain, because we are afraid to share. We don't have to. Just to have someone tell you that you are beautiful, and to just listen to what you are saying, is all it takes to make life an easier place to be. OTOH, where is my ITALIAN. I need to find me one, soon. Ramon Mancini would certainly do. Loved LUCA and LEO as well. Look forward to reading more from this autho.
Where do I begin? Sarah is/was something else! She was forgiven for things that most people would be cursed to hell for, but considering her family background and how the Paris kids parents aren't in their lives, I kind of understand why Sloane forgave her sister. They are all they have. The theme of getting help and forgiveness was the mainstay of this story from start to finish. Sarah and Roman not jumping into bed right away was very realistic and refreshing for me because Sarah still had a lot to work through and Roman was a gentleman in recognizing how vulnerable Sarah was. I also liked that this was an older couple and the issue of infertility was addressed. Adoption is a wonderful gift to give a child, and I'm glad both Sarah and Roman were open to it. Mr. Sullivan should have been erased from the face of the earth!! Ugh!! Otherwise this was another real, touching, well written story. I look forward to more books from Ms. Lake. I highly recommend this book.
