History of Billy the Kid Charles A Siringo 9781518705519 Books Reviews
Priced right
Old school writing style, but has an authenticity to it that is enjoyable.
Charlie Siringo has written his version of the Life of Billy the kid from the stories of others and his occasional contact with him.
Siringo presents him more as as a murderous outlaw than a hero. Considering his numerous criminal acts in a. Lawless country, it's a wonder Billy lived to be 21.
I have read most of the books on Billy the kid and enjoyed this book too. This book was a little shorter than the others but still a very good book.
This book seems more fictional then fact based. It you are looking for a fictional novel this is great but I got it for schooling and this was a waste off time. This is written so that the stories people have told about him are shown. Unfortunately none of this can be proved if it is accurate
This little book was published in 1920. The author claims to have known Billy the Kid, and sets forth writing about his life. It’s written in a sort of homespun manner, with simple sentences, casual syntax, and a tone that made me imagine an old man sitting in a rocking chair on the General ’s front porch, whittling a piece of pine, and telling this tale of “The Kid.” He talks about “The Kid’s” first crime, murders, incarceration, escapes, death, burial, and the like. He also wrote about how “The Kid’s” grave is no longer, but only part of an alfalfa field.
It was an interesting book and somewhat curious in its execution. It was worth my time.
This book is allegedly written by a contemporary of Billy. It reads well, but as an older narrative, some of the language is requires tolerance. It portrays Billy as a vicious, psychotic personality, with definite mood swings. I see little reason to doubt the author, although self-aggrandizing of the author is part of the text. It was worth reading, held my attention as a historian, and was a good comparison to books about others, such as Jesse James or Butch and Sundance. It's a good read, but not great prose.
